The initial segment of the Central Link project of Sound Transit (Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority) in Seattle began operations in 2009. The segment extends from the north end of the previously existing Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (DSTT) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and is 22.4 km long, running either on dedicated track or on road shared by motor vehicles. Kinki Sharyo Co., Ltd. received the order for 62 light rail train sets for the segment—the company had already earned high praise after its delivery of LRVs in the United States, most notably in Boston.
The exteriors of all light rail vehicles and buses operated by Seattle’s Sound Transit are decorated with the same wave pattern.
