The Dubai Metro is the first major urban rail transit system in the Middle East. The metro system has two routes, the Red Line and the Green Line. The construction order was received by a consortium consisting of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Mitsubishi Corporation, Obayashi Corporation, Kajima Corporation, and Yapi Merkezi of Turkey. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Corporation took responsibility for the mechanical and electrical systems, while the rolling stock was supplied by Kinki Sharyo Co., Ltd.
