Under leaden skies, a mountain village in IMAJO, Fukui prefecture is buried in deep snow in silence and solitude.
A steam engine shed for assisting locos was set here before completion of Hokuriku Tunnel(13,870m) in 1962.
Today, Series 683 EMU, dual current(20kV A.C./1.5kV D.C.), IGBT VVVF converter-inverter control, is put in frequent service carrying passengers from Osaka/Kyoto and Nagoya areas to the destinations like Kanazawa and Toyama.
