APM System for Tampa International Airport

  • Introduction
An automated people mover (APM), driverless transportation system connecting the main terminal of Tampa International Airport (Florida, USA) with the airport’s parking facilities and its Rental Car Center (ConRAC) commenced operation in February 2018. Branded “SkyConnect,” the new passenger transportation system connects three stations over an operating route of 2.4 km in five minutes using two-car, rubber-tired “Crystal Mover” trains. The system contributes to smooth, safe, and reliable transportation to the increasing number of airport users by reducing congestion around the main terminal. Below, this article introduces an overview of the new system and its attractive features.
