Hitachi, Ltd. is delivering a straddle type monorail system for the Daegu Urban Railway Line 3, the first such type of monorail for South Korea. It will include 28 trainsets (a total of 84 cars), and is designed to operate as a digital ATP/ATO driverless system. The cars are equipped with ceiling sprinklers and emergency spiral chutes, all part of a comprehensive safety-oriented system. Other advanced technological features include side windows that have “mist glass” that automatically activates when the monorail passes trackside homes, to ensure their privacy.

Hitachi’s in-depth collaboration with its South Korean partners ensures major hiring for the manufacture of Korean-made parts, and the local assembly of the monorail cars on a mass-production scale. In such ways, the company is contributing significantly to South Korea’s across-the-board rail transportation infrastructure.
