These electric trains are operated by the Venezuelan state railway Instituto de Ferrocariles del Estado (IFE) on about 41 km of track, providing passenger services between the capital city of Caracas and its suburbs. The route is double tracked standard gauge (1435 mm), and the line is electrified with overhead 25 kV AC contact lines. The new rolling stock, which consists of 13 four-car trainsets, was designed by Nippon Sharyo, Ltd. and manufactured by that company and an Italian company. The stainless steel carbodies are each 25 m long. The high-performance trains can run at a maximum speed of 100 km/h, even in the hilly terrain near Caracas.
